Public Policy Think Tanks:

The AEI is a private, nonpartisan, not-for-profit institution dedicated to public policy research and education on issues of government, politics, economics, and social welfare. Founded in 1943, AEI's purposes are to defend the principles and improve the institutions of American freedom and democratic capitalism--limited government, private enterprise, individual liberty and responsibility, vigilant and effective defense and foreign policies, political accountability, and open debate.

BI was created in 1916 as a private nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative public policy solutions. Brookings's goal is to provide high-quality analysis and recommendations for decision-makers in the U.S. and abroad on the full range of challenges facing an increasingly interdependent world.

Cato, which was founded in 1977, maintains traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, free markets and peace. The institute is a think tank for study on public policy and holds to a Libertarian view which is often associated with Classical Liberalism.

The CDT, founded in 1994, works to promote democratic values and constitutional liberties in the digital age. The center's focus is on law and policy in relation to global communications and technology, while promoting free expression and privacy in today's age of information.

Founded in 1982, the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservatives and libertarians dedicated to reforming the current legal order. We are committed to the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.

Founded in 1973, the Foundation is a research and educational think tank whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

Founded in 1959 and named after Herbert Hoover, this think tank emulates the principles of individual, economic, and political freedom; private enterprise; and representative government, fundamental to the vision of the Institution's founder.

Founded in 1958 under the name, Private Planning Association of Canada, this Canadian think tank focuses its research on business, organized labor, associations, the professions, and interested individuals. The name was later changed in 1961 to memorialize the Right Honourable Clarence Decatur Howe. Keep in mind that Canada is a more Socialist system than the United States in economics and political thinking.

Founded in 1961 by a futurist, Herman Kahn, this think tank continues to maintain a future oriented approach to research. Hudson sees the complexities within societies, and maintains a focus on the often-overlooked interplay among culture, demography, technology, markets, and political leadership. Dedicated to innovative research and analysis that promotes global security, prosperity, and freedom, the Institute challenges conventional thinking and helps manage strategic transitions to the future through interdisciplinary and collaborative studies in defense, international relations, economics, culture, science, technology, and law.

The Institute mission is to transcend the all-too-common politicization and superficiality of public policy research and debate, redefine the debate over public issues, and foster new and effective directions for government reform.

Following in the intellectual tradition of Ludwig von Mises, the Institute is a research and educational center of classical liberalism, libertarian political theory, and the Austrian School of economics.
